Do you remember the saying "it's not the clothes, it's how you wear them"? Well that's something that extends beyond fashion and into the business world.

Now you don't have to take that too literally but, it should be said and learned that companies need to give attention to how they're perceived by the public -this includes your own company. This starts from the way you advertise down to the smallest details, like the business card.

It may not seem like it but the small business card is pretty strong marketing tool. Once you hand it over to the person you're meeting, he or she is probably using the card to assess you, based on how it looks and whatever information you have on it. Later on too, this card will be a sort of mnemonic device your client might use to remember you and your meeting.

That said, it's probably a good idea to give some extra thought into what your card is going to say to people. So, if you're planning a new business card or, if you're going to do an overhaul here are some things you have to remember:

1)Think up a design that incorporates your brand's logo and colors. Like I mentioned earlier, the business card is can be a way to remind your client about your company and yourself, so make sure your design clearly communicates what you're all about.

2) Consider and take advantage of the business card's dimensions. Remember that a calling card has to be small or handy enough to fit in your client's wallet but it still has to be legible enough for your reader to know why they have it in the first place.

3)Get your design tools ready and calibrated for printing. If you're using graphic design software, before anything else, make sure that your monitor shows values properly so that you get prints that are as close as to the display as possible. If it isn't you can search for monitor calibration tools online. There are free ones but for more advanced users, you can purchase special programs for this.

Also, don't forget to set your color mode to CMYK since RGB registers differently on print.

4)Make your text readable. Make sure your contact information is absolutely clear. It wouldn't do to give out business cards if nobody can understand the information you want them to see.

5)Compare printing companies. Before sending in your business card designs for printing, look for a printing company that can give you the best deals. Try looking at sites that offer printing price quotations as well as consumer review sites. You want to go with a company that can give you what you need on time, for the best possible price.

Some companies offer discount business cards printing and coupons. Those are some things you could look into for more savings -because really, a great business card doesn't have to cost a pretty penny.

Once you have those down pat, then you can definitely maximize your calling cards' potential while still staying in budget. So don't think that your cards have to be the pocket-sized marketing tool equivalent of an Armani suit, just a little know-how can help you come up with a spiffy and useful business card for a reasonable price.
